Mission Statement
Kansas City Community Center was founded to provide a place of refuge, stability, healing and hope to substance abusers and offenders. Our mission is to serve the community by helping these individuals realize their potential and rediscover their worth to themselves, their family and their community.
At KCCC, we help people rebuild their lives.
Our History
KCCC opened its doors in 1982 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable corporation providing substance abuse services to indigent alcohol/drug addicts and to offenders. Services now include social detoxification and residential, outpatient and case management services to adult substance abusers, including incarcerated offenders, offenders on probation or parole and those housed in community settings. KCCC’s primary function is to provide substance abuse treatment and re-entry services to offenders and to public sector clients. In 2007, KCCC served over 4,000 clients in our community drug and alcohol abuse treatment programs. KCCC provides assessment and treatment services to over 1,800 Missouri prison inmates daily.
KCCC has contracted in the past with the states of Florida, Arizona and Nebraska to provide substance abuse and residential halfway house services.
The corporation strongly believes in the innate dignity of each individual regardless of past behavior and is committed to treating each client with respect and dignity. It is with this approach that KCCC has succeeded in the past, and it is with this approach the Center will face future challenges.
Our Treatment Programs
Substance abuse and criminality are viewed as a disorder of the whole person. The individual may have become engaged in a lifestyle of negative patterns, attitudes, roles and/or antisocial behavior. Confused value systems, behavioral problems, family difficulties, vocational and educational deficits, health problems and legal difficulties are frequently evidenced among our clientele. Effective treatment requires a multi-dimensional approach by addressing thinking patterns, developing a positive peer culture and making a global lifestyle change. Programs address the client’s physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual needs.
Our Funding Partnerships
KCCC has multiple funding resources including the Missouri Department of Mental Health, the Missouri Department of Corrections, the Clay, Platte, Ray Mental Health Levy Board, the Combat Commission and the Health Care Foundation. We collaborate with other community resources to ensure that comprehensive services are available to our clients.
