Substance Abuse Counselor/Case Manager
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This is a responsible, professional position involving a wide range of counseling services to an offender or medically indigent population. Counseling will include group therapy, seminars, and individual sessions. Services may be delivered in a residential or outpatient environment. Topics will include drug/alcohol related issues, life skills, coping skills, and planning for recovery. Therapy groups will be designed to explore and clarify client values and thinking patterns. The 12 Step recovery program will be the primary treatment modality.
REPORTS TO:
Counselors report to the Program Manager or Assistant Program Manager, depending upon program location.
JOB DUTIES:
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Providing intake and assessment services to referred prospective clients.
- Participation on screening team to determine the clients' needs, eligibility, and appropriateness for drug treatment.
- Development, implementation, and revisions of assigned clients' individualized treatment plan.
- Review of the treatment plan in accordance with the regulations of the Department of Mental Health.
- Provision of individual counseling, group counseling, group education, treatment planning, discharge and aftercare planning.
- Provision of ancillary treatment services as required, (e.g., recreation, self-help groups, art, community referrals, special topical instruction, etc.).
- Counseling assistance to children and family members, as appropriate.
- Maintenance of the clinical record in accordance with A.D.A. requirements and legal requirements.
- Attending mandatory meetings and training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) An alcohol, drug, or substance abuse counselor certified by the Missouri Substance Abuse Counselors Certification Board, Inc.;
OR
(2) A counselor, psychologist, or physician licensed in Missouri who has at least one year of full-time experience in the treatment or rehabilitation of substance abuse;
OR
(3) A graduate of an accredited college or university with a master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, psychiatric nursing, or closely related field, who has at least two (2) years of full-time experience in the treatment or rehabilitation of substance abuse;
OR
(4) A graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or closely related field, who has at least three (3) years of full-time experience in the treatment or rehabilitation of substance abuse.
